|
| Based
in Darnall, Sheffield, Geo Robson & Co (Conveyors) have successfully
added another industry to their portfolio. With many established systems
within the Airport, Power Generation and the Sugar Refinery Industry,
Robson have successfully completed systems for the Offshore Oil Exploration
Industry. |

|
A repeat order was the reward for completing a £3.1 million project,
which involved the fabrication and build of a Pipe Handler Conveyor
and Crane. The Pipe Handler plays a critical role within a deep sea
Oil Rig Drilling System, ensuring that the drill pipe sections, up
to 5 metres in length and weighing up to 4 tonnes are transferred
safely to and from the drilling platform. |

| The
Pipe Handler system involved specialist welding, hydraulic and electrical
systems, which showcased Robson in house, engineering skills. The
system designed by Shipley based TSC Offshore (Formally Patriot Mechanical
Handling), and is destined for the Norwegian Oil Fields and as such
had to undergo stringent testing to meet complex standards for the
Norwegian Oil Industry. |
| 00 |
| With
the Oil Rig being a dangerous environment the Pipe Handler had to
also meet the European ATEX Standards for Potentially Explosive Atmospheres.
Robson's vast experience of ATEX environments shone through, with
many conveying systems designed and built for the explosive gas and
dust environments found in the power generation and sugar industries.
|

| The
fabrication of the Pipe handler was undertaken by Robson's sister
company, Rotherham based RJD Engineering, who ensured the structure
met the critical weight limits that the customer required. With the
welding and fabrication of offshore equipment being critical RJD undertook
task of gaining the accreditation of the British and European Standard
BS EN ISO 3834. Required mainly for the Offshore and Nuclear Industries,
the standard ensures the company meets the highest quality of welding,
traceability and documentation. |
|

|
| Only
a handful of UK companies currently hold the standard awarded by TWI
(The Welding Institute). Ensuring the Robson Group is one of the market
leaders in this field. |
